· First introduction of the Sea Sword-X unmanned surface vehicle
· The Sea Sword-X brings together LIG Nex1’s technological capabilities, enabling flexible and powerful responses for diversified missions
· Integrated mast and warfare systems on display to present standards for K-maritime solutions and promote expansion in global markets
LIG Nex1 (CEO: Shin Ick-hyun) will take part in the International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX) 2025 to propose new standards for future maritime defense.
The company has set up the largest exhibition hall (280㎡) for a single company, and, notably, with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, it will operate a booth shaped like a next-generation stealth battleship.
It will showcase its unique advanced future unmanned maritime solutions to support the Navy Sea GHOST, the Republic of Korea Navy’s marine manned/unmanned complex combat system,
while introducing export-oriented K-maritime defense solutions such as the ‘Sensor to Shooter’ system and maritime mission solutions. It will also display amphibious warfare and coastal defense solutions in a separate area dedicated to the marine corps.
Notably, the Sea Sword-X, a concept model setting the standard for future unmanned surface vessels, will be featured to present the future vision of unmanned fleets.
Based on its stealth design minimizing detection range and equipped with a multi-function radar (MFR), it guarantees powerful three-dimensional search capabilities.
In addition, it is armed with the company’s robust proven weapons, including a 20㎜ remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), the Poniard 2.75-inch guided rocket, the Blue Shark light torpedo, and attack drones.
The Sea Sword-X can be controlled using artificial satellites and communication drones, and it can engage in effective swarm operations.
Its standardized platform allows attachment and detachment of mission-specific devices for flexible and powerful responses in a variety of operational environments such as anti-ship, anti-submarine, and anti-drone warfare.
The unmanned reconnaissance surface vessel, the first to be deployed by the Republic of Korea Navy, and the unmanned suicide surface vessel produced by 3D printing will also be displayed side by side,
demonstrating a clear will for the deployment of a strong unmanned fleet.
The company will also unveil K-maritime solutions representing the country.
These include an integrated mast for surface ships, combining active electronically scanned array multifunction radar (AESA MFR) and electronic warfare (EW) functions as well as a warfare system that integrates sensors and weapons.
LIG Nex1 will additionally exhibit its Ship-to-Air Missile-II, Close-In Weapon System-II (CIWS-II), and an anti-drone integrated jammer. The Ship-to-Air Missile-II,
currently being developed in an R&D project for a domestic SM-2 class ship-to-air missile similar to those currently used by the Korean navy, when finished, will be mounted on destroyers (KDDX) to intercept aircrafts and cruise missiles targeting ships.
The CIWS-Ⅱ is the final defense system that ensures the survivability of ships.
Equipped with an AESA radar that provides 360-degree coverage, it guarantees the ability to respond to multiple targets, such as cruise missiles, and a quick engagement response time. Its destructive power is also enhanced with a 30㎜ gun.
It is being considered for a future evolution into a system capable of effective response to swarm drones using forward-dispersing projectiles.
The anti-drone integrated jammer disrupts the navigation systems of unidentified drones to block their approach to ships.
Along with the already deployed SAAM anti-ship missile defense weapon, these defense systems constitute a multi-layered air defense system for ship-mounted applications.
A source from LIG Nex1 stressed, “We will support the realization of the Republic of Korea Navy’s manned/unmanned complex system the Navy Sea GHOST based on our capabilities showcased at MADEX 2025.
We will also do our best to promote the country’s status as a maritime power in the global maritime defense market.”
